Why did you choose to complete a Higher National?
I wanted to take a qualification that will combine theory and practice while giving me a solid foundation in the selected field.
What did you gain from your Higher National?
Gained indepth and practical knowledge in the field of business and HR. The qualification was recognised by the university where I did my degree which granted me entry into the final year.
What are the key skills your Higher National taught you?
Leadership skills, effective communication, people management and critical thinking.
How have these skills made a difference in your career?
They made me stand out in the highly competitive corporate world.
Do you have any career tips or advice for current or prospective Higher National students?
Always have a plan and a goal. Never lose confidence. But rest assured you have taken the correct qualification which will take you to new heights in your professional and personal life.
What has been your career path up until now?
I've started as an Executive in Human Resources. Over the past 5 years I've worked for global brands, including HSBC & Nissan automobile Middle East; my current assignment is with a leading e-commerce organisation in Sri Lanka as a Head of Human Resources.
What does your current role involve?
I am the head of the overall HR function at the establishment, overseeing the entire employee life cycle, working closely with the CEO in strategic HR operations and HR planning.
What are your future plans?
To start up my own HR consultancy firm.
